Toyota Repair: 98 Sienna Trunk Latch, siennas, easy job

Question
I have a broken handle on our Sienna Trunk.  How do I replace it?  I cannot seem to locate a manual latch to the rear gate and getting the back panel off is tougher than I thought.  Is there a way to do this without destroying anything in the process?

This is a common problem on the Siennas, the hatch can be opened from the outside, first break off any of the old plastic handle that is remaining with a pair of pliers, then you can look inside the opening with a flashlight, you will see a small lever inside, this will release the lock by inserting a small hook into the opening and pulling this lever down, the door will open.
Remove the door panel and then remove the license plate holder and the new handle can be installed, it's not exactly an easy job but it can be done with a little determination and skill.
