Motorcycle Repair: carb jetting, honda vt1100 shadow, bolt holes


Question
i have a 2002 honda vt1100 shadow spirit. so far i have installed a k and n filter, cobra drag pipes without baffles.  i have a cobra carb rejetting kit and was wanting to know what size jets to use.  i live in denver, co.,in mile high altitude.  also, anything else you can suggest to improve performance without going into the engine, would be be much appeciated.  thank you.

Hi Larry,

Carburetor tuning is a difficult task. I read spark plugs and feel performance when tuning.

The best advice I can offer is to follow Cobra's instructions for installing the jet kit. You should be able to contact Cobra for tech support.

Look into an ignition advance trigger wheel. USA bound motor vehicles are detuned slightly to meet strict Clean Air Act emmissions standards. A trigger wheel can change ignition advane a few degrees to improve performance.

You can machine (oblongated) camshaft sprocket bolt holes  and degree the cams to get the same effect.
