Motorcycle Repair: Electrical, xvs650 dragstar, engine control module

Question
I have a 2001 xvs650 dragstar, at about 75/80 mph it starts misfiring and the engine warning light comes on, is this due to thr rev limiter? if so why would it come at a relatively low speed for top gear and why does the warning light stay on.
Hope you can help me out.

Answer
Hi Andy,

From the description given, I would need to perform diagnostic tests to form an accurate cause.

It may be a defective engine control module (ICU/CDI), worn or torn throttle diaphragm, spark plug flashover, defective ignition component, varnished carburetors, water in fuel, or other.

Sorry! I cannot be more specific without being present and checking.
