Motorcycle Repair: no spark, troubleshooting chart, stator

Question
Suzuki TL1000S
I have no spark at either plug. Tested the voltage at both coils and have 12 volts but on both terminals of each coil which could mean a bad stator. How do I check the stator? I already have it off the cycle. Or could it be the rectifyer? How would I check this ?

Answer
Hi Dan,

[Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been working alot of OT. I usually reply within a couple of hours.]

I suspect the CDI (TCI) is defective and cause for no arc at the plugs.

You should have battery voltage at the ignition coil's primary winding terminals (small wires).

Visit this website and follow their Troubleshooting Chart:

"www.electrexusa.com" <-- High quality electrical parts.

and

"www.thegsresources.com" <--- great Suzuki site. Read "The Stator Pages" information.

I'll send a few electrical test information files to your email.
