Motorcycle Repair: bike wont start, honda spirit 750, ground connections

Hi Mark:
I tried starting my bike (2000 Honda Spirit 750) and it only made a loud clicking sound everytime I pressed the starter. I tried jumping it but it would not turn. Do u think it's the battery or starter. Where do I find the starter to change it?

Hi Mickey,

The usual cause is a weak or defective battery. However, loose cable connections have similar symptoms. Check battery cable connections, starter motor solenoid connections, and chasis ground connections for clean and tightly fastened connections.

Important: Do not jump battery with any battery other than another MC battery. Voltage is same, but cars and trucks have much higher current and may damage battery and electronics on board you MC. $$$ mistake.

If all cables are clean and tight, try charging the battery.
