Motorcycle Repair: Electrical, bike cranks, fxstc

Question
1994 FXSTC,blinkers and blinker indicators, spedo lights, brake light all work but the headlamp, running lights (Including rear light)and nuetral indicator are not working. I have checked the service manual and see nothing indicating what to check. I have checked all the bulbs and I know that power is not getting to the headlamp at all. I took tanks off and tried to check wires with a voltmeter but was unsuccessful in getting any kind of reading. I did get a reading off the swith so I know I was grounded and that power is flowing through the switch. The bike cranks with no problem. I road the bike last about 4 weeks ago and didn't have this problem.

Can you offer any suggestions?

Thank you,
Mathew

Answer
Starting at the switch, since you know you are hot there, you are going to have to trace the wires to the lights. Get your service manual out and follow the power in the wiring diagram. This is the only way you are going to find the problem. Make sure you are hot on both sides of the breakers when you have the key on. You either have a bad breaker, a shorted wire or a bad ground.
Good luck and Merry Christmas
