Nissan Repair: Gearbox repair, worst case scenario, gearbox

Hi, I am looking at buying a 1990 Nissan Terrano. Its an automatic but is having problems with the auto trans. It will only stay in first gear. What would be the best and worst case scenario of fixing it? Cheers.

You will end up replacing the transmission or having the one in the vehicle rebuilt.  I would discount the price of the vehicle by what a transmission rebuild costs.  About $2500 in U.S. dollars.  I do not know what the price is where you live...
