Motorcycle Repair: xt600e (89/90) wiring problem!, regulator rectifiers, regulator rectifier

Question
Hi mark,i have 89/90 xt600e(uk model)the bike was purchased in pieces now back togeather /running.under the rear tail cover is an electrical module{poss regulator/rectifier}the wiring had corroded off and i believe i have rewired it correctly 3 wires are white with a red or brownish dot on them,1 wire is red,a black earth is bolted to the side.Problem as yet i have not purchased the correct battery due to the time it has taken to complete project ,i currently have run/tested the bike using a 12v. jump pack when the bike is running the module/regulator gets hot is this normal is it due to the jump pack drawing too much from the charging system (battery is on order)or could i have wired the module incorrectly i have a clymer manual but it only covers U.S.bikes upto 86 their wiring is different.ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED...SIMON{vauxhallmaniac@blueyonder.co.uk}

Hi Simon,

Visit the above website. Is this the part you're referring to? This is the Igniter made by Electrex USA.

The above website show microfiche view of all electrical components and their relative location on the MC.

Regulator/Rectifiers are designed to produce heat as a means of discarding unused electrical current. Most RR's are made of aluminum and have a heatsink fin body.

I cannot find a wiring diagram to peek at the colours of wires.
