yam xt 250 84 tring to find info on valve timeing on the old girl also valve clearances the cams dont seem to have corasponding marks i can follow do you have this info?
regards Mark Lucas
Answer -
Mark, I don't have any clearance specs on the valves or cam setting. Usually on DOHC motors, the setting marks are on the cam sprockets. Either a series of lines that go parallel to the cyl head surface or punch marks that generally go UP at 12 o'clock position.

I looked a some online microfiche images at:
http://www.powersportspro.com/partsfish/v2/displayfiche.asp

But couldn't get a lot of detailed info on this one. Suggest you find a repair manual to guide you through...
www.motorcyclebooks.com  www.motorcyclememories.com
or Ebay auctions, perhaps.

Basically the cams have to be in a location where both valves are closed at TDC of the piston (compression stroke), then both are slightly open at the TDC overlap stroke 360 degrees later.

I couldn't find much to assist you on the web...
