Motorcycle Repair: Air Filter Change, minute job, gas tank

Chris,I have a 95 yamaha 1100cc(virago)and I am told to change the air filter I need to remove the gas tank. Is this correct? If so,is it much of a job?       Thank you for your help.

Hi Dom.
 What idiot told you that you need to remove the tank?!!  The air filter for the XV series is located under that chrome pod (the one with the XV1100 emblem on it) on the high side of the bike, below and towards the front of the tank.

 It's a 5 minute job.....if that.

Get the repair manual for the bike before you listen to anyone else on any repair issues.  You will find most of your answers there, most of the time.
