Motorcycle Repair: RC valve, 2002 honda cr250, exact procedure

Question
Mark,
2002 Honda CR250, RC valve or "exhaust valve" as it may be called, adjustment question. Exactly what is it, what does it do, and how (or why) is it adjusted, how would I know? Have replaced the "guide" with a new one as stock one broke while I was removing it in order to do a top end job. It just snapped in half during removal, looked to be corroded/rusted. Put new one on, hooked up the cables and tightened it down, did not mess with any adjustors. How would I know if this bike needed that adjusted or not? I sincerely appreciate your assistance a few months back with my suspension question, your advise was right on time! Thank you again.

Answer
Hi Norman,

Exhaust valves are designed to produce power or control power in specific areas. Engineers and tuners have more tunability with exhaust valves, too.

How to adjust the valve is specific to each model. You'll need to get the service manual for this. I don't know the exact procedure for your CR. Remember, my expertise is roadracing. : )

Check out this website for an example of adjustment:
