Motorcycle Repair: Headlight, continuity check, headlight bulb

Question
Falcon;
I have an 86 yamaha virago 700.  I got it running great.  It had sat for about 6 years and I cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel tank and put it all back together again.  The headlight worked until I used a truck (chevy s10) to jump the battery which ran dead. Now the headlight isn't working.  All other lights are working and all gauges are operating, the bulbs look fine and the fuses look good... any ideas?

Answer
Hi Donnie.
 Check the headlight bulb with a multimeter.  Sometimes, the bulb looks good, but it isn't.  A continuity check will show if it is good or bad.  As far as the fuses, check the fuse connections.  Chanses are, they are dirty or burned.  Make sure they are clean and test the circuit with a known good fuse.

 If you started the bike with the truck engine running, then you may have done more damage than you think.  You can start a bike with a car or truck battery, but the engine must be off on the car/truck.  Otherwise you will force more amperage into the system than it was designed to handle.  Get the manual and go over the entire electrical system looking for burned wires, connections and components.

Good luck.
