Question
I have a '81 honda cb 650. One bulb was out in the tail light. I
replaced the bulbs and now only the brake lights work. Any help
would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Hi Creighton,

Do you have access to a 12 volt tester and a VOM (multimeter)? You'll need to check continuity of the bulb's filament and trace voltage through the tailight circuit.

For more information of these procedures visit the following website:

If you continue to have problems, let me know.

I recommend buying and using the repair manual, too. It will pay foritself with the first home repair. Find manuals at "www.bikebandit.com"  Also see microfiche parts here.

Visit this website and click CB750K1. Wiring diagrams are same for the brake and turn circuits:

This is a cool interactive wiring diagram. Move mouse pointer over controls and switches.

Lastly, electrical contacts such as those lead spots on the bulb's base and their mating contacts within the bulb socket must be clean and corrosion free. Bulbs must fit tightly for a good connection. Chasis grounds through- the MC must be clean and tightly fastened, too. Same goes for all switch contacts. Inspect them and apply dielectric grease to all contacts and electrical connectors. This will help prevent corrosion and water shorting (washing & rain).
