i have a 1992 evo with revera/makuni setup. my rear plug fouls(sooty not oily) i changed maniflod o ring and did carb cleaner test, no increase in idle. i was told to get a performance ignition. i cant afford the 500.00 now. would going to a performance coil help and which do u suggest.
Answer -
Usually, since your harley is a duel fire system the coil would go bad for both cylinders not just one. I would suspect that you either have a bad plug wire or the post where the plug wire plugs into the coil is dirty. Changing your ignition or the coil will not solve the problem you are having.

i changed wires to opposite plugs and still have the same problem always rear cylinder runs rich, i bought a smaller jet and will put in bike tommorrow

Answer
If your bike was running ok before, then changing the jet will not help. Your bike runs both cylinders on one carb, so if you were running rich both cylinders would be fouling.
You can test the coil and the plug wires with a OHM meter. If you have one and need to know how to do it let me know, but I dont think it is your problem.
Since you changed plug wires and the same thing is happening, then I would do a compression test and a bleed down test. This will let you know if oil is getting past the rings. A small amount of oil will mimic gas fouling or running rich.
