FOLLLOW UP 1/12/05. You asked for my e-mail (kenokode@yahoo.com) address so you could send me a pinpoint test. SEE ANSWERE BELOW. Then you reply stating you allready answered my question. Every answere you gave was to run a test. I'm sorry but simply running test's and not replacing or changing any parts will not solve any problem. I can understand a problem being too hard to solve. Thanks anyway.

1/7/04 Follow up.  I reset the fault test (batt. disconnect) and checked the throttle body, was clean. Did another fault test a few day's later. This read #172,173,(O2 sensor) & 668 (tranny). This time there was NO 157 (mass air flow)fault. When starting in A M, eng. idles high for 1 minute, 'check eng.' light flashes TWICE, eng. cut's out nearly dies then high idles again. Eng. runs rough. Please help. Thanks, Fred.

Follow up To Question: On12/29/04 we did a test for the engine codes (#). Here are the results: Done with key ON- engine NOT running: #157, Mass air flow meter (replaced with new one 3 mo.'s ago). #172 EGO- Low. #173 EGO- high (replaced two CO2 sensor's in three mo.'s). #668 Transmission sensor. With the engine running could NOT Key engine running test. could not clear codes. The engine idles very rough and is getting worse. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 1994 Ford 5.0L F-150 Flare Side, Auto Trans. 2WD P U.
My truck looses power, bucks, and engine pings when I drive. Usually when it goes into 2nd or 3rd gears. It starts & idles fine. The 'check engine' light goes on, but not every time I loose power. If I press the gas pedal down far enough, passing gear kicks in until I level off again. I had an 02 and Air sensor replaced and it was good for one month. Had a 2nd 02 sensor replaced and it was good for 2 months untill now. IMPORTANT: When this loss of power happens (20/30 mph), I sometimes quickly turn the ignition key 'off' and back 'on' and I get back my power to the engine. Feels like something is resetting. Expirementing, I unplugged the Air sensor and, of course it won't idle correctly and cut's out when I take off from a stop, but when I'm going at least 10 mph and above, the engine does not loose power. Plug it back in and it looses power again. If the problem is my 02 sensor, would turning the ig. key 'off & on' mean it's another type of problem? This is driving me crazy. Please help if you can. Thank You. Fred.

ok lets remove the air filter take a look in at the trottle body see if you see any oil.to clear codes is disc. the battery for 10 mim. and hold your foot on the breke for a mim. with the battery disc. then hook it up and let it reset the idle strag.

Followup 1/13/05---Sorry about that Mr. Ragu. No offense intended here. I know you must spend lot's of time answering many questions and I was guessing that you may have confused my question with another thus the "I allready answered your question" response from you. With your help, I was hoping that I may be able to zero in on the problem with the truck but the pinpoint test procedures you sent appear to be above my level. I allready spent the money TWICE to fix it and I was hoping to find the CAUSE of the problem. I pretty much expected to spend more money anyway's but I want it to be the last and final time. That I may have to spend the dough is certainly no fault of yours. Thanks again for all your help and I'll let you know when and how I made out. Thanks, Fred.

Fred   don't give up just try to do the pinpoint test if you need help I will walk you thru. what I would do first is just unplug the MAS sensor and do the road test if you don't know were  the parts are located then let me know and I will send you a graft.

Followup 1/15/05. Thanks Ragu, I disconnected the MAF sensor. Results: Very rough roller coaster idle in neutral, stalls at a stop in gear, when taking off from a stop it nearly cuts out. When going along it did run better than with it on. Remembering the following fault codes #'s 172 173 (o2's) & 668 (trans.) and 5 month's ago replaced MAF & o2 ran good for 1 mo' then replaced another o2 (not the MAF) ran good for 2 mo.'s till now. Why when I replaced the second o2 did it run better for 2 mo.'s? I took the MAF apart & cleaned the 2 little filaments, put it back on and the truck is back running lousy. If the filaments looked good could it still be the MAF? Would a bad MAF result in the two O2 and the tranny fault readings? Why not a MAF fault reading? This is frustrating. Thanks again, Fred.

Answer
fred yes  were did you but it from? 02 sensors yes but not the trans sensor.let me pullthat code and get you a pinpoint test if this code is a trans rpm sensor this could be you problem because it is trying to lock up the converter and this will cause you a shutter or a miss.or even a traler hitching surging.
