Motorcycle Repair: carburetor (?) problems with 94 Magna, jet needles, carburetor problems

Question
I have a '94 Magna (@26,500 miles) that ran great until it started "choking" out. It will idle and I can get it up to @ 4000 rpm using the idle adjust but if I use the throttle and goose it it will choke down and stall if I don't let off of the throttle. The problem seems to be with the front two carbs or pistons.
I've gone throught the carbs and they are clean, the plugs, plug wires and coils have been tested and are good (actually the front two wires were bad and have been replaced), the tank and filter are clean with clean gas and I'm testing the compression looking to see if the front two pistons have jumped time. What should the compression be? and does it make sense that the timing could be the root of my problem? Like I said eralier, the bike was running great and then it quit running great! Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jay, the compression should be above 130psi and all cylinders should be very close to each other.
doesnt sound like timing to me. The problem sounds like the Jet needles are worn out. Take close like at them and look for wear.

   good luck
