Motorcycle Repair: brake lever trouble, seperate pieces, flhr

Question
1997 FLHR Having trouble with my front brake lever. After using (depressing) the front brake it does not move back to a location to release the brake light. It is not a worn lever(checked that) it is as if the plunger from the master cylinder is not coming out fast or far enough to disenguage the brake switch without pushing forward on the brake lever. Could this be a need to bleed the brake? FYI this started shortly after I put chrome housings on my switches. I have tried repositioning there with no luck. Thanks in advance. ALAN M

Answer
Your master cylinder assembly and switch housing it two seperate pieces. They need to be pushed together tight. There is a button in the master cylinder housing which when out turns off the brake light. Ther should be no space between them. This is usually what happens. If your master cylinder plunger was not coming out the brake would drag very badly since there is pressure on it.
Good luck and happy riding
