Motorcycle Repair: Bike not kicking over (starting), heritage softail, handle bars

Question
I have a 1994 Heritage softail with an S S carb. I had it Dyno'ed a couople of years ago and had no problems then It also had a cam and bigger pistons installed a few years ago. It seems to be taking lonnger to start in the morning lately and today for the second time in a month, the battery died before I could even get it started, It also back fires on occasion when attempting to start it. I have tried using the choke and also not usining it but still haoving problem.Im starting directly from the starter with one of those push in starter buttons. No controls on handle bars

Answer
you could be having ignition problems or charging problems. a low battery will not let the bike start, Or if it did start it would not run good, when using the choke you can NOT give the bike any throttle at ALL. Timing could be off as well as Jetting. Johnny
