I was wondering if you could tell me the easiest way to change the fork oil on a '01 Deuce. The drain plugs are on the iside of the forks which make it difficult to get at. Also I have a lift so do I need to worry about preload when removing the fork covers?
A detailed step by step would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

You need to removethe tire to change it. Pu the bike on the lift, remove the tire and drain the oil. since the tire is off and the bike is on a lift then you need not worry about preload.
Good luck and happy riding

Mike,
If I remove the fork caps and snake a tube down to the bottom  and use a Mitivac to suck out the oil ... would this work? Seems easier than taking off the wheel just to get to the drain plugs. I noticed in the service manual it states the brake caliper bolts are 10mm but I think thats incorrect. You know the specific size?

Thanks
Joe

Answer
You wont get the tube all the way down to the bottom by doing that. They used to put the drain plugs on the outside and I dont know why they changed. Made it alot easier!
My service manual says the same thing. Off the top of my head I think that is right.
