MG Car Repair: no spark, spring tension, 12 volts

hi i have a 1972 midget.i have no spark to spark plugs have replaced coil but still the same.i do have 12 volts on both sides of the coil and 12 volts to the points.ps i am just on starting to restore this vehicle as been parked up twenty years

Hi Peter,
Turn the engine until the points are closed and check for voltage on both sides of the coil. At that point you should have voltage on the power side and none on the points side. If you do have voltage at the points side and the points when the points are closed then you need to file the and clean the points and check that they have spring tension and the runner is lubed and the points gapped at .015" when open. Also check the small ground strap on the points plate to see that it is grounded.
