Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki cutting out a high speeds, 1991 suzuki gs500e, good shape

Question
Hi Chris,

I recently bought a 1991 Suzuki GS500E that seemed to be in good shape. Because I'm a fool, I left the gas on "PRI" the first night I owned it. It took a fair amount of coaxing to get it running right again, but it finally seemed to be in good shape.

I'm now having a problem and I'm not sure whether it's related. Whenever I push the bike hard (two people on board, going 65 mph for 10 minutes ... - ... or one person going 75 mph when it's not entirely warmed up), the engine basically stalls out at that high speed. I can almost always downshift and get it started again. Sometimes I have to wait 5 mintues. Either way, I have no idea what's going on, and whether I should have someone who knows what they're doing fix something, or whether there might be something I could do.

Thanks a ton for your help,

Answer
Hi Dave.
Look for shorts in the wiring and ignition system.  Check the components against the specs in the repair manual.

Check wiring from power through ALL switches to the spark plugs.

Your problem is somewere in there.

Good luck.
