Motorcycle Repair: Simple Question(s), honda shadow, fabricator

Question
I've got pretty simple questions for you.  I own a 1994 honda Shadow 600cc.  I'm going to customize it this winter (not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet)  Anyways, what size/type welder would I need to do any kind of customizing.  Part two, my back fender is plastic, not metal, was curious if you knew how I could plastic weld?  Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Answer
Hi Seagull.
As far as the welding, I haven't the faintest clue.  Check with the nearest fabricator shop.

For the plastic, if you try to weld it, it will melt, of course.  However, you could try doing the piece that you want in fiberglass.  Just make a basic mold out of builder's foam and lay the fiberglass over the mold, or you could make a mold in plaster and do it that way.  It's up to you.  Fiberglass isn't extremely difficult to work with and can create some really amazing body parts if you can work it well enough.  Any body shop supplier will have the materials for that kind of project, including any paint that you want.

Have fun with it.
Good luck.
