Motorcycle Repair: Mice infestation, honda goldwing, mice infestation

Question
Chris -  Here's the scoop  -  98 Honda Goldwing in PA.  Bike is garage kept and ridden mostly weekends not a daily driver.  In june I found mouse nest in gas fill tray when I stopped for gas.  Last week on a night drive I started the bike and had no headlights.  After reving the engine and "tapping" on the lights the headlight and one side light came on.  When I got home pulled both side covers off eng compartment and found mouse nest on engine top.  Vacuumed it out   -   mostly foam lining from fairing ducts.   Here's the questions:
How to prevent mice from nesting in motorcycle
How expensive is it to dismantle honda fairing and check wiring harness/lugs or worse yet chewed wiring to restore any damage.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Tom.
As far as the infestation, I would do the same as you would in your house.  Since the bike is garage kept, then the mice are in your house as well.

As far as access to the wiring harness, there should be access panels on the fairing (usually where the removable pockets or glove boxes are) to work on it.  I would refer to the repair manual for the details on that, since I really have no experience working on the newer GL's.

Good luck.
