Motorcycle Repair: FRONT BRAKE, front brake caliper, honda vt750

Question
CHRIS.  I HAVE A 2002 HONDA VT750 SHADOW A.C.E. 750.  I WAS CLEANING THE FRONT CALIPER WHEN I PULLED THE PIN BUSHING OUT OFF THE LOWER PIN.(part number 11: BUSH, PIN  5868-001 ) TO PUT IT BACK ON I HAD TO TAKE OFF THE CALIPER AND PUT IT BACK IN THE CALIPER.  I THEN PUT THE CALIPER BACK ON AND EVER SINCE THEN I HAVE LITTLE TO NO FRONT BRAKE, AND I SOUNDS LIKE IT IS DRAGING ON THE DISK.  THE BIKE ONLY HAS 3000 MILES ON IT.  MY FRIEND AND MY SELF HAVE BELD THE EVER LOVEN CRAP OUT OF IT AND IT STILL DOESNT WORK.  IN WATCHING IT IT LOOKS LIKE THAT THE PISTONS ARE PUSHING UNEVENLY.  I DONT KNOW WHAT WE COULD HAVE DONE.  I EVEN TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER, (lots of help and additude they were) AND TEHY DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONT.  THEY JUST WANTED TO SELL ME A $300 NEW FRONT BRAKE CALIPER.  ANY SUGESTIONS I AM COMPLEATLY STUMPED ON HOW THIS PROBLEM OCCURED AND HOW TO FIX IT.  JUST THAT MORNING IT RAN FINE NOW IT IS JUNK

Answer
Hi Anthony.
Since bleeding it didn't fix it, I am wondering if something didn't go back together quite correctly and is now causing a blockage in the system.  Based on your description, I don't see how.

There is also the possibility that the caliper may need a proper lubricating as something may be dragging.  when 2 metal parts come together, it doesn't take hardly anything at all to prevent movement past a certain point.  Check to see if something is grabbing the posts on it.

As far as the attitude of the folks at the dealership, your best bet is to check with a reliable independant shop.  Most dealerships have parts changers rather than mechanics, so problem solving is not really their forte'.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.

btw, the weblink that you attatched to your post didn't work.  Thought you ought to know.
