Motorcycle Repair: 1980 Honda GL500 Silverwing, electrical problem, honda gl500, inline fuse

Question
I been having an electrical problem with my 1980 Honda GL500 Silverwing, i'm pretty sure this is something icredibly small and stupid but i'm just not seeing it.
Had a problem with the battery, bike wasn't getting no juice so we tried to jump it, it got power for a second and one of the cables poped off and the bike died, since we bought a brand new battery put it in there, and nothing, no juice at all. I'm guessing its an in line fuse that i'm just not seeing. Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Mike.
To start with, you will need the repair manual.  It has all of the wiring diagrams and other specs that you will need for the bike.

Check all of the connections, fuses and fuse connections from the battery to fusebox.  Make sure that they are secure and clean.  Check the wiring for shorts as well.

If you are getting no power at all and the wires are good, then it is likely that the main fuse or fusible link has blown.  Considering the bike and age, it is a fusible link.  Those are usually special order item.  You could bypass it and install an inline fuse of the apropriate size instead if you want.

Good luck.
