Question
Hey Mike, Hope you are ok! Can you tell me on a 78 4speed what is making the clutch push rod wear
hole through the oil slinger on kick side? Wears
round hole through then destroys bearing? rod or
clutch handle adj. 2 tight? This is second time
and can you tell me the order in which parts go,4
example rod then slinger etc;; i may be assembling
wrong, not sure about little brass washer or rod
bushing, first time all that was toast and wasnt
sure completly? THANKS YOUR ALWAYS BIG HELP

Answer
not sure why the slinger wore out on you, but heres how it goes. Remove the adjuster on the clutch side and check the end of it for wear. If its wore replace it. Install the slinger on the end of the rod, then the bearing. coat it with a litle grease. Check the part that the bearing rides on which would be inside the kicker cover. If it is wore replace it. It can burn up the bearing if wore to bad. now install the rod, adjuster and kicker cover. To adjust the rod turn the adjuster inward just until it touches to rod and then back out just a hair. Now adjust the cable until you have about a 1/8 inch of play in the clutch handle. Make sure your trans is full of oil. To little and the bearing can be burned up.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
