Motorcycle Repair: Blue exhaust pipe, yamaha v star, lean condition

Question
I am thinking of buying a 98' yamaha v-star classic 650cc w/ 8000 miles. It runs great and has been well taken care of. I did notice that the exhaust pipe near the manifold is blue. I don't think that is a major problem, but I don't think that it should be so blue for only having 8,000 miles on it. Can you help me? Thank you.

Answer
I usually only answer questions on harleys, but I think i can help you.
You bluing is caused by a lean condition. Your bike, Like all cars and bikes, came from the factory lean to pass EPA standards. Lean causes heat which makes the pipes blue in color. The only fix is to change the jets to richen up the bike. The way it is right now wont hurt anything. They have been building them this way for years.
Good luck and happy riding
