Motorcycle Repair: Engine dies, kawasaki kx 250, vent hoses

Question
I have a 1994 Kawasaki kx 250. The bike will run for a short time and then just bogs out and dies. Seems if you let it sit for a long while it will start again only to die once you ride for a bit. What can you suggest?

Answer
Hi Rick,

The problem may be caused by an obstructed vent, a fuel problem, or electrical problem.

Vent:
Check the following vent hoses: gas cap vent, petcock vent, carb float bowl vent.

Electrical:
Ignition system components may be defective. Test these parts to verify integrity.

Fuel:
Check carburetor for fuel delivery problems, pinched fuel hose, collapsed vacuum hose (with engine running), varnished carb, or contaminated fuel. Check flaot bowl for water in gas or other sediment contamination. Check petcock for varnishing obstruction. Check fuel filter screen.
