Motorcycle Repair: 1980 wide glide front wheel spacers, wheel spacers, rotor

Question
I have an 1978-1980 FX with a wide tree set-up. The front wheel is a 1980 H-D FXWG take off. The wheel flanges seem to be mid-glide width. Is there supposed to be rotor spacers on this wheel and if so what part number. I also need axle spacers. I've owned the 78'L since 1979, the 1980 was recently purchased and I am building one from two. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Answer
What you need to do first is take the wheel off the bike, with the axle installed and the speedo drive unit installed and do some measuring for the axle spacers. This is the only sure way to do it. Then you will know the correct spacers. Remember you will need side to side play in the wheel or you will burn up a wheel bearing. you need about .020 Once you have that done install the wheel and make sure the rotor is centered in the brake caliber. If not then you need to measure the distance to correct the problem and get the right spacer.
Good luck and happy riding
