Motorcycle Repair: wont run for like 1 to 2 years, hi mike, carbs

okay chris i have had a 1974 kawasaki for about 1.5 years and it wont run at all.  i have good spark and have gas getting there but it just sputters.  i could really use some help.

Hi Mike.
 What you have sounds more like a restoration problem as much as anything else.

1)  If you haven't already done so, then replace the battery with a new one.  The old one will definitely have bad cells.

2)  Pull, disassemble and clean the carbs, replace the fuel with new, if you haven't done so.  The old fuel will be bad.  Synchronize the carbs when you get them back on.

3)  Adjust the valves and check the timing.  You will need the repair manual for the adjustment specs.

Start with those and let me know what you find.
