Motorcycle Repair: no start, delicate electronics, zx6r

Question
my problem started out with, when i would ride my 96 zx6r-f bike for about an hour or two, it really did not matter how long. when i would turn it off it would not start until it cooled off. now it is at the point where it will not start at all. i was told to check the igniter and coils. can you give some instuction on what the volts should be and how to test each part? this bike has 5,000 miles on it and it never had a  problem before.

Answer
Hi Keith,

With your limited experience I recommend the purchase of the Service Manual for your motorcycle.

This is the best way for you to learn about troubleshooting and diagnosing this problem. You'll also learn about important warnings to prevent damaging delicate electronics with test equipment.

You'll find all the specs and test procedures there. It will pay for itself with the first repair.
