Motorcycle Repair: honda 750 4 cylinder, honda nighthawk 750, 1983 honda nighthawk

Question
Chris,
I have a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 750.  Ran well til this year.  Had a slide sticking the No. 4 Cylinder.  Found a used one and replaced it.  Disassembled cleaned and remounted.  Motorcycle starts and runs at idle but will not allow the choke to be opened without quitting.  Also will not take throttle.  Set screws are at 1.5 turns on all 4 carbs. It is really pulling a lot of air through.  I took the air filter off and blocked the hole with my hand.  The engine raced, and I thought it was going to suck the skin off my hand. The boots are good.  What's going on here? Thanks.  Roy

Answer
Hi Roy.
What are the condition of the plugs?  They will indicate if the bike is running rich lean or good, which may indicate what the problem is or may be a contributor to the problem.

Also, when the carbs were reassembled and reinstalled, did you synchronize them properly?  That could be the problem with it not taking throttle.

Let me know and we can continue from there.
Good luck.
