Motorcycle Repair: suzuki intruder complete eletcric failure, suzuki intruder, fuse box

hi chris i have just bought a 1991 vs800 intruder. when riding home the bike backfired a couple of times and misfired a couple of times. then when very near home died completley but restarted strait away then half a mile later died but restarted. as i got onto my street it died but all the lights went out no power to anything.pushed home, took off fusebox cover all ok but wire dangling from plug on bottom of fuse box, reatched wire still no powercould this have damaged battery or is it different problem

Hi Rob.
 Check the battery cable.  On the intruder, the battery cable is routed near the swingarm and rear tire.  I had a 700 Intruder and the tire wore the cable clean through.  Fortunately, a Learjet battery cable could be made to fit.

 Also check the main fuse, all of the connections in the main power circuit and you could also have a major short in the wiring.  When the bike failed, did you smell any burning wire?  That would indicate a major power feedback and subsequent major short.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
