Motorcycle Repair: 1965 honda 50, shaft design, honda 50

Question
Bill,

Found your site - AWESOME! I still have my '65 Honda 50 3 speed and am restoring it now, but my mechanic cannot locate the kick start post - it snapped years ago (common problem) and it has been sitting for over 2 years awaiting a part - can you direct me to where I can find this part? The carb answer was great - I had the same problem.

Thx

Tim

Answer
Tim, that was a common problem... perhaps a weakness in the shaft design and often due to the fact that they have magneto ignitions, which quit making sparks when the points are dirty or worn down. Because you they have a battery, people often thought that THAT should make them run, so they KICKED AND KICKED AND KICKED until the shaft broke off! Be sure that you specify which model it is for, because in some instances the shaft for a C100 may be different than a C102 or C105. They all look the same on the outside, but Honda made LOTS of changes through the years. The serial number for the motor will be necessary.
