Motorcycle Repair: non working brake light on a 1981 honda cb 750 custom, honda cb 750, brake light switch

Question
chris
i have checked the brake light switch and get a current coming out. the running bulb element gets current ok. i just can't get the element for the brake light to light up. the motorcycle is in excellent condition with only 3000 miles and inside storage since new. the wiring shows no damage from aging. i did try new bulbs with the same result. by improperly forcing the bulb i can get some current to the filiment in the bulb. the connectors for the wires seem in good shape. i really need the brake light for safety and i have tried the things i know to have worked in other situations.this bike has no history of this but has not been ridden much this year.

Answer
Hi Ray.
Have you checked the current at the recepticle with a multimeter?

You could have a bad recepticle there.  As a matter of fact; based on your description, that is exactly what you have.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
