Motorcycle Repair: mileage and effects on life of the motorcycle, cbr600f4, bluebook

Question
Hi ! Chris
I'm really interested in buying this CBR600F4
It has 21000 miles on it - ( it's a 2000 ) The owner says he has records that he has changed the oil every 1000 miles; never been down etc. bike looks great! He is also willing to have the bike checked at a garage of my choice----- 21000 miles would be nothing for a car and I'd be confident of buying it but I just do'nt know much about bikes ( buyer's price is $4500) What do think?!

Answer
Hi Pranai.
It sounds like a good deal.  Check the bluebook, though.  If the bike has been garage kept, well maintained and is clean, then it will give plenty of miles as long as you continue that level of care.

As far as the miles, motorcycles are just like cars.  We have this perception that motorcycles are more sensitive than cars.  They are not.  They were not built as a recreational vehicle even though most people treat them as such.  I ride my bike every day.  Rain or shine.

Have fun.
