Suzuki: idle, air leak, sidekicks

hi...i just bought a 92 4 dr. Sidekick and the engine light is flashing a code 12 [ one and then two flashes ] this apparently means an emissions leak in hoses etc; along with this the idle now runs at almost 0 rpm after an initial 4 or 5 hundred rpms and stalls 20% of the time while driving [ when driving away from traffic lights etc ][ and 100% of the time in reverse, no matter how i work the gas and clutch - i cannot afford to take it to a dealer, if you have an idea what is wrong [ and if the hose leaks and the very low idle problem is connected ] can i set up the idle myself without creating a computer set - up problem - whatever light you may shed on this would be appreciated. thank you. jc.

If your problem is an unmetered air leak from the outside, carefully spray around the engine hoses, manifolds, etc while it's running.  An immediate improvement would indicate that you've just sprayed the leak.

I no longer have any of my sidekicks, or manuals, and don't have any data anymore.
If you go online and search, you can find a manual, sometimes free, sometimes not.
