Motorcycle Repair: can i start with a broken choke cable, throttle cables, electric starter

Question
I have just bought a second hand MZ 125SX, year 2002, as my first bike. I am pretty sure that i have broken the choke cable and hence can now not open the choke. The bike is an electric starter without the kick start option, so i have limited tries with starting before my battery goes flat, as i have already done once. I was hoping that you knew a way to choke the engine another way, by immitating the choke actions in a simpler way, just until i can get my mechanic to come a fix her up.
hope you can help,
sincerely,
Drew

Answer
Hi Drew.
Do you have easy access to the carb's throttle and choke mechanisms?

If not, then there isn't anything that you can do about it, but choke cables and throttle cables are very easy to replace.  You could even do it yourself as long as you have the part and a few common tools.

If it is accessible, then look at it.  You should see two cables going to it (3 if you have a push/pull throttle setup).

Twist your throttle and see which cable(s) move.  The one that doen't move is the choke.  Manually move the lever that it is attatched to and start the bike.

Good luck.
