Motorcycle Repair: oil leak, vent filter, custom chopper

Question
I have a custom chopper with an s&s 103" shovelhead.  It is percolating oil out of what looks like a small air filter below and behind the transmission.  The hose it is attached to is coming out of the crankcase.  While rolling it over a ramp, this filter thing was damaged but I still don't understand why the crankcase would be blowing oil out of it.  Do you know what the name of this gadget is so I can replace it and is this oil pressure normal?  Thank you, -Robert

Answer
That is the crankcase vent. the filter on there is suppose to keep a slight vaccumn on it. Air is suppose to vent out this hose, but a little oil will weep out as well in a mist form. You can change the filter out. Its called a crankcase vent filter.
Good luck and happy riding
