Hi, I just recently got an 83 XT 250 from a friend of mine, but it did not run. I started by taking off the carborator and cleaning it out and all the fuel lines to make sure it was getting gas, now that i am sure its getting gas it still wont start. I checked the spark plug and its good, but when i kick it, it sounds like it wanted to turn over but dont quite do it, Im assuming the timing or something is off on it since it backfired a lil bit. Other than that i have not the slightest clue on what the problem is. Please email me.

Thanks for you reply to my question. Is it possible that you send me a wiring diagram, on wiring instructions, and the procedure on how to check the igition coil and fuse. And can you tell me how to set the timing. Thanks id appreciate you guidance.
First thing you want to check is the ignition coil and wiring as well as the ignition fuse and all connections in the ignition system. Make sure that all components are functioning properly. Test the coil in accordance with the repair manual's specs.
Start with that and see what you find.

On that I cannot help you. I do not have manuals and specs on all of the bikes out there, so the only thing that I can do is to suggest that you go to either a good accessory shop that deals with all makes/models of bike and see if they have the repair manual in stock, or go to a Yamaha dealership and see if they have one. Either can order it if it is not in stock or you can order the manual online at;
