Motorcycle Repair: clutch adjustment?, yamaha xs360, clutch adjustment

I've got a '76 Yamaha XS360, I've adjusted the clutch according to the factory manual. The clutch won't engage till the grip is let out entirely. Could the cable be too long? it is brand new! Any thoughts, suggestions or guesses thanks alot. Kristin Peterson

I don't have a lot of knowlege about Yamaha's, since they are not British Bikes but there are some principles that apply to most bikes.

It's possible that the cable is too long. It is also possible that there should be some adjustment on the cable itself or handlebar where it attaches. These adjustments help take up the slack.

Clutch adjustment is tricky business. It helps cultivate friends with experience if you don't have it yourself.
