Motorcycle Repair: VT 600 new exhaughts, air fuel mixture, drag pipes

Question
Just installed a pair of Raask drag pipes to my vt 600c 1998 model I have been told with 2000 reg plate not a vlx the one with bigger air box !.  It is back fireing when I slow down.  Is this normal ?  if not do you have any advice on how to reduce/get rid of it.

also trying to locate the left hand pilot screw which I cannot locate, all manuals seem to be for vlx model and not 600c, can you point me in the general direction.

Another question on full choke, it seems to be running idle quickly. Do I need to adjust the idle speed, and how do I do it ?

I know these are a lot of questions any help would be greatfully recieved.

thank in advance

Duncan

Answer
Hi Duncan,

Q:  Just installed a pair of Raask drag pipes to my vt 600c 1998 model I have been told with 2000 reg plate not a vlx the one with bigger air box !. It is back fireing when I slow down. Is this normal? if not do you have any advice on how to reduce/get rid of it.

A:  The carburetors will need tuning to correct the air-fuel mixture. With the right mix, the engine will run properly.

Q:  also trying to locate the left hand pilot screw which I cannot locate, all manuals seem to be for vlx model and not 600c, can you point me in the general direction.

A:  Visit "www.bikebandit.com" to see exploded/microfiche parts views on line.

Q:  Another question on full choke, it seems to be running idle quickly. Do I need to adjust the idle speed, and how do I do it?

A:  The idle "should increase" with choke applied. That's normal. The idle speed adjust screw is located on the side of one carb, or between the carbs.

I recommend the service manual if you want to work on your MC.
