Motorcycle Repair: honda goldwing cruise control, electronic cruise control, honda goldwing

Question
Chris,
I have a 1990 Honda Goldwing SE with 35,000 miles.  The cruise control has worked fine until I took a 1500 mile trip last month.  Since the trip, the cruise control surges.  I can set it at 75 and it will speed up, slow down, speed up some more, then surge faster and turn off.  It makes me dizzy.  I have replaced the control module with a new one and checked all visible vacuum lines and everything looks fine.  The speedometer has some fluctuation in the needle.  I don't remember if that was there before the problem started.  The engine runs fine and when I disconnect a vacuum line, I can hear vacuum.  What should I try next?

Answer
Hi Joe.
Since you have the electronic cruise control, I would be looking for shorts and hot grounds in the wiring for that circuit.  It sounds like you've checked everything else.

Outside of that, if you can't find anything wrong, then perhaps a Honda certified mechanic is going to need to be your next step.

Good luck.
