Motorcycle Repair: 2003 Yamaha Roadstar drive train issues, vance and hines longshots, oil leaks

Question
Chris,
I received a recall notice last February on my 2003 limited edition roadstar concerning a clip in the transmission needing to be replaced. I took the bike in for the repair and that started all my problems. Before the recall I had riden over 7500 miles trouble free now the bike has 11500 miles with 6 different trips back to the dealer for fixes for everything from 1-way bearings free spinning not allowng the engine to turn over, this happen twice, oil leaks, and now the chain the primary broke the teeth off the sprocket after the repair was completed last week the bike makes a loud pitch screaming sound while going down the road it is loud enough to drowned out the sound of a set of Vance and Hines longshots. Can you tell me where the roaring sound is coming from I really don't feel comfortable with the dealer working on it again.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Gary.
I couldn't even begin to guess at what this problem is.  It seems to me that you have substandard mechanics working on the bike.  It ran fine before you took it in, as per the factory recall, and now it is worse than it has ever been.

Seems like they owe you a new bike.  If they cannot fix it right the first time on a recall that they should be able to fix, then you may need to consult with an attorney to get this issue corrected.

If a potential lawsuit doesn't motivate them, then contact the local news media (tv and newspapers).  That should light a fire under them to fix it right.

Good luck.
