I have a 1979 cm400t Honda that has been stored for the last year after checking out the bike found fuel leak at float bowl vent tube. removed carbs and cleaned blew out completely. reassembled and tested still leaks. checked that plug in bowl sealing (it is) float will float not sink. ordered needle and seat question is- Is there a trick or special tool to remove the seat assy. from carb? Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance for your time and help

Jim,

The needle valve seats are pressed in place. They have an o'ring seal. If you're replacing them, grab them with pliers and pull. Lightly lube new seat's o'ring upon installation.

First let me say thanks for the help. got everything cleaned and set up got bike running but it seems to have no power. top speed of about 45-50mph I see all this about snycronizing the carbs but can you give a brief how to on this particular bike carbs do not have a place for a vacuum gauge and I find no ports anywhere on the carbs to use is there another method that I can use? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks once again.

Answer
Jim,

Look between the carburetors and see if there is a metal band connecting them. It may be about 3/8" wide, in a "V" like shape, and fastened by nuts. This is the synchronization bar. If this part is bent out of shape, dented badly, or creased, it will need replaced.

I'll have to research the actual synch task for this type of carb. It's been so long, I can't remember how. : )

See an example of this parts here: (click the smaller and lower carb image to see the part.
