Motorcycle Repair: yamaha 750 special, chain and sprockets, clutch cable

Question
I own a 1979 yamaha 750 special. The clutch cable had   been adjusted about a month ago. A couple days later there was a growling noise in the transmission and the back wheel locked up. Of course it ended up on its side. I started it back up and rode it home and it was fine but i havent rode it since. any idea what might have happened? kbucholz@usachoice.net

Answer
Hi Joe,

I would have to investigate to accurately say what happened.

Look around the chain and sprockets for unusual wear marks. Sometimes gears break. A small piece may have momentarily lodged in bewteen gears. Drain engine oil and carefully inspect oil for metal particles. May have to split the cases to know for sure.
