Motorcycle Repair: FRONT FORKS, suzuki madura, wheel bearings

Question
I HAVE AN 86 SUZUKI MADURA 1200 WITH 15 K MILES. THE FRONT FORKS ARE JERKY ON NOT PERFECT ROADS. ALSO, AT HIGH SPEED, THE FRONT END STARTS TO WOBBLE. I JUST BOUGHT THE BIKE AND IT IS VERY SCARY WITH THE FRONT END THAT WAY. WHAT CAN THE PROBLEM BE?

Answer
Hi Austin.
It sounds like you have a problem with the wheel bearings, not the forks.
The way to check is the have the bike up on the centerstand and have someone hold the handlebars steady.  Grab the front wheel and try to move it up and down, front and back and side to side.  Do the same with the rear wheel as well.

If you it feels loose, then the bearings are shot and you need to replace them.  Wheel bearings are usually not that expensive, so it won't be that bad.

Good luck.
