Ford Repair: 1994 Ford Taurus, fuel pump relay, ford taurus

Question
We have a 1994 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 engine. The car will not always start.  Sometimes it starts and runs a while and stops.  I can let it set for 3 or 4 days and it will start again. I have checked the fuel pressure while it is running and after it stops and the pressure is good 38PSI. When the car stops I still have spark, and I can spray gas in the tunnel ram and it will run until the gas runs out. I've checked the ignition modular and it's good. I've tried to pull the codes but when I turn the key on the cooling fans come on and the codes stop.  I tried unplugging the fan but undoubtly the computer is still telling the fan that it is on. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi, there is a common problem with Fords related to the Fuel pump relay. Normally, the problem shows up after the car has been driven, then an attempt within 20 minutes to restart it fails. It cranks but won't start.

The relay is "on" full time when the key is on and they get heat sensitively intermittent. The way you describe your symptoms, I suspect you have this problem. The fuel pump relay is under the hood in the relay and fuse box. Some boxes have a label inside the lid that tell you what relay is for what circuit or the owner manual should also identify which relay it is. Once you find out which relay is for the fuel pump, and replace it with a new one.
