Motorcycle Repair: 1981hondacb650c, air fuel mixture, check air filter

last year had headgasket replaced now,when i go over 55mph i loose power.i have to ease back on throttle to regain speed.what do you think?ANY ADVICE IS A BIG HELP.thanks,dennis

Hi Dennis,

I recommend a cylinder compression and a leak-down test be performed to know the condition of the engine. To see how the repair is holding up. Carbs need good compression to work properly. Good compression is essential for combustion, too.

I suspect the air-fuel mixture could be adjusted "leaner" to cure the acceleration problem. Before tweaking the carbs, check air filter and air box opening for obstructions that may be richening the mix by restricting air. Clean or replace air filter as necessary. Remove any obstructions to air flow.
