Motorcycle Repair: wont start, electrex usa, gs series

Question
Hi, I have a 1977 Suzuki GS750.  I just bought this a week ago or so and just got tags a few days ago.  I went riding for about 40 miles the night before and aside from stalling once or twice before it got warmed up it ran good.  I rode for a while with the choke on because it kept stalling but took it off and it went fine.  The next day I was going to ride to work and I started the bike and left it to run with the choke for a while to warm up the bike.  When I went to ride to work I started up the street and the bike felt like it was losing power and would ride sluggish but have small spurts of power.  Then there was a violent backfire and the bike stalled out.  I couldn't get it to start again and had to walk it the quarter mile home.  It still will not start.  Any ideas what I should concentrate on.  (when it felt like it wasn't geting power it was almost like it was choked of fuel and then little bits would get in and it would pick up but slow back down.)

Any help you could give or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Grant

Answer
Hi Grant,

I would need to perform a few checks to know exactly what was happening with the MC. Do you know if this MC was stored for a while, such as over winter?

Remove the spark plugs and clean or replace them. I suspect they have become fouled. The carburetors may need cleaned and synchronized. The GS series are know for defective charging systems. A faulty or poor charging system may cause similar problems.

Visit www.thegsresources.com to learn more about your GS750.

If you need electrical parts, I encourage you to buy from Electrex USA (www.electrexusa.com) and avoid Suzuki's electrical parts.

That's about all I can do for you.
